Brian J. Halsey is an accomplished legal scholar and coordinator of the nationally
ranked MBA program at West Chester University. He holds a J.D. from Widener University
Delaware Law School and an LL.M. from Villanova University School of Law. He is also
a Certified Information Systems Security Professional and is admitted to the Bar in
Pennsylvania and the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, having previously been admitted
in New Jersey.
Under his leadership as Graduate Director, the MBA program achieved its first-ever national ranking and experienced a 500% growth in enrollment. He continues to play a key role in the program's growth as the current MBA Coordinator. He is also a past President of the Mid-Atlantic Academy of Legal Studies in Business (MAALSB) and a former Editor-In-Chief of the Atlantic Law Journal.
His expertise lies in the legal, commercial, and societal implications of blockchain technologies and cryptocurrencies. He conducts applied research on how these technologies affect everyone from individuals to entire nations. He also has a strong interest in the intersection of law and technology, with a focus on applying academic theory to real-world situations, especially for professionals in the cryptocurrency field.
Professor Halsey has authored or co-authored numerous publications in refereed journals and has a co-authored textbook on business law. His recent work focuses on topics like: Central Bank Digital Currencies and user privacy; teaching methods for defamation law and constitutional issues; the legal treatment of Bitcoin by government agencies like the IRS, SEC, and CFTC; and the legal aspects of technology, including cord-cutting and its impact on media.
In addition to his academic work, Dr. Halsey has served on many committees at West Chester University, including the The Curriculum and Academic Policies Council (CAPC), Graduate Curriculum Management Committee and the Pre-Law Advisory Committee.
