CNO Practice

On April 20th, 2022, The Center for Newcomer Onboarding presented "Best Practices for Onboarding Student Veterans". We gathered local universities to share and discuss their methods for onboarding student veterans.

Lauren is wrapping up work on a project focused on refugee integration. She interviewed refugee organizations and found numerous resources. One of the goals of this project is to provide information to people who want to get involved and help. She is working on creating social media posts to provide information and findings from the interviews.

At Dean Leach’s request to the CNO for suggestions on how to improve student onboarding, Lauren is currently working on a proposal to the CBPM for suggestions to improve student onboarding, above and beyond what the orientation and FYE already does. She is gathering information from students, orientation leaders and FYE faculty.

Lauren is beginning to work on two potential projects: one about veteran student onboarding and the other about re-integration of formerly incarcerated people into work and school.

The Center for Newcomer Onboarding is working with Safe Harbor, a local homeless shelter in West Chester, PA. Safe Harbor reached out to the Center for Newcomer Onboarding to receive guidance on how to improve their own onboarding of board members. Vipanchi Mishra, PhD along with Thomas Kiker, a graduate student in the psychology department, are working closely with the leadership team to come up with solutions based on best practices.
Lauren Anderson, Graduate Assistant for the CNO, recently surveyed small businesses in downtown West Chester on their strategies for marketing, particularly to new residents. She collected information on strategies and creative ideas, then circled back to the participants with a Best Practices report, including ways for the participants to collaborate on marketing to new customers.
