Teams

Available to Faculty and Staff at WCU, Microsoft Teams, also referred to as simply Teams, is a unified communication and collaboration platform that combines persistent workplace chat, video meetings, file storage, and application integration. The service integrates with the Office 365 subscription office productivity suite and features extensions that can integrate with non-Microsoft products. Microsoft Teams is a competitor to services such as Slack and is the evolution and upgrade path from Microsoft Skype for Business.

Microsoft Teams is a collaboration app that helps your team stay organized and have conversations—all in one place. Here's a quick look at the left hand side of Teams.

  • Teams - Find channels to belong to or create your own. Inside channels you can hold on-the-spot meetings, have conversations, and share files.
  • Meetings - See everything you’ve got lined up for the day or week. Or, schedule a meeting. This calendar syncs with your Outlook calendar.
  • Calls - In some cases, if your organization has it set up, you can call anyone from Teams, even if they’re not using Teams.
  • Activity - Catch up on all your unread messages, @mentions, replies, and more.

Use the command box at the top to search for specific items or people, take quick actions, and launch apps.

All employees are licensed to use Teams and create new teams in Teams. Students are not licensed to use Teams by default, but a faculty or staff sponsor can submit a Microsoft Teams License Request in ServiceNow so students can be licensed. Teams can be used for group projects or for university sponsored organizations.
