CELT Book Club

Each semester, the Committee for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) selects one book related to teaching and learning and hosts a monthly book club. Each meeting lasts for one hour and provides faculty participants the opportunity to discuss the book with colleagues.

This fall semester, CELT is reading José Antonio Bowen and C. Edward Watson’s Teaching with AI: A Practical Guide to a New Era of Human Learning (2024). To participate and receive a complimentary copy of the book, you must commit to attending two meetings throughout the semester: one in October and one in November.

Book club will meet on Zoom twice during the semester:

  • Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 2:00 PM or Thursday, Oct. 3 at 11:00 AM
  • Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 2:00 PM or Thursday, Nov. 14 11:00 AM

If you are interested in participating this semester, please complete the book club registration form. Space is limited.

If you have any questions, please contact Book Club Co-Facilitators

Dara Dirhan

Faculty Advance Book Club

The Multicultural Faculty Commission launches the Faculty Advance Book Club. This book club, facilitated by Janet Chang (chair of MFC), is organized by MFC and sponsored by ODEI and TLC.

Are you interested in discussing and advancing equity issues in higher education? To further our understanding of these issues, join us in conversation and gain insights from others as we discuss Stories from the Front of the Room. This book focuses on BIPOC faculty experiences, the ways in which they are challenged, and how they thrive at academic institutions. Our discussions will focus on the experiences of BIPOC faculty and staff, and everyone is welcome to participate.

The book club will meet twice this fall:

  • Thursday, October 17 (2 - 3:30PM)
  • Thursday, November 21 (2 - 3:30PM)

Register today, and please indicate whether you can attend one or both meetings. If you would like to participate and receive a complimentary book, you must commit to attending at least one meeting this fall; we hope you will be able to join us for both. Registered participants may pick up a copy of the book from Anderson 107 on Wednesdays or Thursdays between 8:00am and 3:00pm.

If you have any questions, please contact Janet Chang.
