Returning Students Housing

Hello Golden Ram,

On Monday, October 27, 2025, at 12:00pm (EST) the 2026-2027 Returning Student Housing Application OPENED for returning students interested in living on campus in WCU Managed or USH Affiliated Housing for the 2026-2027 academic year (fall semester 2026 and spring semester 2027). Here are a few reminders about WCU Managed and USH Affiliated Housing to ensure a successful application process.

WCU Managed

• Application opened October 27 at 12:00pm (EST) and will remain open until November 7, 2025, at 12:00pm (EST).
• Reminder, this process is not first come, first serve and students do not need to apply immediately upon the opening of the process to be considered. Students interested in living in WCU Managed housing should ensure they complete the application before November 7, 2025, at 12:00pm (EST).
• Priority deadline for Roommate Matching and Housing Accommodations through OEA before November 21, 2025, at 4:00pm (EST).
• Students will be emailed their Housing Selection Timeslot on November 24 and/or 25, 2025.
• Housing Selection occurs December 2 – December 4, 2025.
• A $200 housing deposit will be due upon confirmation of a housing assignment and need to be paid in mid-December.

USH Affiliated

• Application opened October 27 at 12:00pm (EST) and will remain open until November 7, 2025, at 12:00pm (EST).
• Reminder, this process is not first come, first serve and students do not need to apply immediately upon the opening of the process to be considered. Students interested in living in USH Affiliated housing should ensure they complete the application before November 7, 2025, at 12:00pm (EST).
• Students requesting USH during the lottery phase, can either choose to enter the lottery as a roommate group or an individual. All students have a fair chance of being selected in the lottery for USH.
• Students will get an email letting them know whether they received a lottery spot (application for USH) or not on November 17, 2025
• Students will then have 21 days to sign their lease.
• Room self-selection occurs February 11, 2026, to February 17, 2026.

Here are a few Frequently Asked Questions we have received thus far about the returning student housing application process.

Should I apply to WCU Managed AND USH Affiliated housing or should I pick a singular provider?

Because housing is not guaranteed for any student population, we encourage you to apply to both providers to increase your opportunity to secure on-campus housing. The application for both providers opens and closes on the same day for returning students.

Will I have to pay a deposit for both housing providers upon applying for housing?

Students who apply to both providers between October 27, 2025, and November 7, 2025, will not pay a deposit for both housing providers upon completing the initial housing application. If you secure housing with WCU Managed through the Housing Selection Process, you will be prompted in mid-December to pay the housing deposit. The WCU Managed deposit will be applied as a credit on your fall 2026 tuition bill. If students secure USH Affiliated housing, they will pay the USH $200 non-refundable application fee upon completing their application.

How are you paying for housing next year?

1. Financial Aid
1. File your 2026-27 FAFSA Early! The FAFSA is open at https://studentaid.gov, WCU would love to see students file in Fall 2025 to qualify for maximum financial aid.
2. Payment without the assistance of Financial Aid
3. Transfer of 529 funds to help pay for school costs

As a returning student, we encourage you to consider all living options. This includes exploring both on-campus housing providers--WCU Managed Housing and USH Affiliated Housing - as well as nearby off-campus living options and resources from WCU’s Student Experience office.

Between now and October 27, you can expect weekly updates related to the returning student housing process via your WCU email. Weekly updates will include information about financial aid, the housing application process, roommate matching, housing self-selection and tips to navigate the process for each provider.
