Welcome to the Ghana Winter Experiential Learning & Cultural Immersion Program! The program is open to students of all academic majors. Students participating in the program will travel to Ghana for eight (8) days in early January, while earning three (3) credits towards their degree. Students will enroll in the SWO 493: Public Health Social Work elective, a five-week, 100% online asynchronous course, and complete the first 3.5 weeks of the course online. The experiential field trips to social work and public health agencies in Ghana will complete the rest of the course. Field trips include visits to the Osu Children’s Home (Orphanage) and the Accra Regional Hospital, where students get to interact with children, patients, social workers, public health practitioners, nurses, etc. The program also includes other exciting educational and cultural immersion trips to the University of Ghana (UG), where students engage in educational and cross-cultural interactions and activities with UG students and faculty, and to major historical landmarks, including the Elmina Castle, the Assin Manso Slave River & Market, the Kakum National Park, the Independence Square, the Accra Art Center, and more.
